Tree Frog Babysitter Mrs. Hsiau-su Shu-jhen Tree Frog Babysitter Mrs. Hsiau-su Shu-jhen

Main accomplishments: Mrs. Hsiau-su, a community planner in Taipei’s Xinyi District,Chairperson of Sanli Association for Community Development, and a volunteer in Xianshan area,plays an active role in learning about and promoting community development through having adopted Zhongchia Community Park for the conservation of Taipei Green Tree Frogs, a rare endemic species in Taiwan. Her efforts have helped to transform Zhongchia Community Park into a model for community development as conservation groups at home and abroad come to learn from the successful conservation of Taipei Green Tree Frogs. As Taipei’s international visibility in community development has been effectively heightened through her work, Mrs. Hsiau-su should be duly recognized as a leading figure in community development in Taipei as well as a role model for life-long learning.

Main accomplishments: Since founding the Taipei Friends of Firefighters in 1994 and serving as its chairman from 2003 to date,Mr. Chen has devoted himself to promoting firefighting in Taipei City. On top of that, he genuinely cares for the education of the next generation and actively serves as vice Chairman of Jyue-siou Temple in Taipei City.Mr. Chen’s strong support for and significant contributions to public-interest activities make him a role model for Taipei Citizens.

Main accomplishments: After being severely burned in a vocational hazard, Mr. Chen became engaged in the struggle for the rights and welfare of the mentally and physically challenged. As CEO of the League of Taipei Social Welfare, he has effectively expanded this NGO’s services by transforming his 30-years-plus experience as a social advocate into a strong voice for even a broader range of groups of the underprivileged. “Social Welfare is my lifetime commitment!” says Mr. Chen, a man who inspires people with his enthusiasm for and perseverance in romoting social welfare.

Main accomplishments: Mrs. Sun, a rare gem as a versatile, transvestite actress in the traditional performing arts, has successfully brought Taiwanese opera onto the international stage and introduced new ideas into local theatrical works. Her dedication to the preservation, promotion, and popularization of traditional culture is underlined by the fact that she holds the record of “Spokesperson for the Most Public-Interest Events in Taiwan”. As an outstanding performing artist, Mrs. Sun’s involvement in and contribution to the cultural, social, and public good truly deserves public recognition.
Ultra-Marathon Ultra-Marathon Runner Who Challenges the Limits Mr. Lin Yi-jie

Main accomplishments: Mr. Lin, Winner of the Four-Deserts Ultra-Marathon Race in 2006 and a challenger who completed the Sahara Marathon in 111 days in 2007, has effectively placed Taiwan in the international arena. The various achievements in his running career have not only expanded the perspective and breadth of his life but also enhanced the international visibility of Taiwan. The perseverance and fighting spirit that he has demonstrated by challenging his own limits is truly a symbol of the spirit of Taiwan and a model for all Taiwan youths.
