Chapter 9 Environmental Ecology

The amount of household waste has significantly dropped and the recycling rate has risen since Taipei City implemented the “Per Bag Trash Collection Fee”garbage disposal policy. In order to transform Taipei City into an ecologically friendly and sustainable city, the Department of Environmental Protection stepped up pollution controls for air quality, environmental noise, water quality protection, its protection mechanism against pathogens and radioactive contaminated buildings. Household kitchen waste is now being recycled, repaired furniture auctioned, incinerator bottom ashes recycled and reused, and the amount of product packaging limited. The Taipei City Government has also moved to strengthen measures for the conservation of species, their natural habitats, and the protection of hillside ecology to promote environmental and animal protection awareness.
